In addition to HCC-Africa’s established programmes with the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) and the Court of Master Sommeliers (CMS), we are pleased to introduce Regional Specifications, a new category of specialised study focused on key wine-producing regions around the world.
Regional Specifications provide targeted, in-depth insight into specific geographical wine identities, complementing global qualifications with nuanced regional expertise. The first programme featured in this series is Capstone California, chosen for its comprehensive curriculum and its relevance to both trade professionals and serious students of wine.
With Regional Specifications, HCC-Africa continues to broaden its educational portfolio, giving learners the opportunity to build not only international standards of wine knowledge through WSET and CMS, but also focused regional mastery that enhances practical understanding and market relevance.

The Capstone California Wine Certification (Levels 1–2) is the official certification program of the California wine industry, created for students, professionals, and enthusiasts worldwide, and offering a pathway from introductory to intermediate study.
Presented by the California wine industry, these programmes progress from the 28-hour Introductory Level 1 to the 40-hour Intermediate Level 2. Candidates study key eras in California wine history, major regions and AVAs, and how geography, climate, and the Pacific shape styles. Level 2 expands into figures, rivers and mountain ranges, the vine’s annual lifecycle, fermentation and oak choices, and AVA exploration across coastal, inland, and mountain regions, reinforced through chapter quizzes.
